At least 80 rich tax payers in North Sumatra have reported assets so far unregistered not to miss the opportunity to make use of the tax amnesty policy, head of the provincial tax office Muktar said here on Monday.
The tax payers reported their assets at nine tax service offices in the region, Muktar said when presented a token of appreciation for Muhammad Dahli, the first of the 80 tax payers to join the tax amnesty program in North Sumatra.
He said the state earned Rp20 billion in redemption from the Rp1 trillion worth of assets reported.
He said his office highly appreciates the decision taken by the tax payers and expressing hope that more tax payers would follow suit.
There were thousands of potential tax payers like Muhammad Dahli in North Sumatra, he said, pointing to around 3,500 business leaders gathering in a hotel ball room in Medan on July 21 to be briefed about the program by President Joko Widodo.
Muhammad Dahli, an oil palm plantation owner in North Sumatra said he could now breathe with relieve after completing the process of reporting his assets at tax service office in East Medan.
"I felt called on to join the tax amnesty program. In the beginning I did not understand about the tax amnesty program," he said.
He said he had assets as part of inheritance not included in his annual tax return form (SPT).
"I was worried that it would finally uncovered, and I have to pay 30 percent in tax. Therefore, immediately after hearing the tax amnesty program I waste no time to make use of it," he said.
Now there is no more sleepless nights as guaranteed by the government.(*)
