Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister of State Enterprises Rini Soemarno has proposed six holding companies for around 140 state companies (BUMNs) to be more effective in their contribution to the countrys economic development.

"Now we propose six BUMN holding companies," Rini told reporters here after a limited cabinet meeting on Friday.

The six proposed holding companies are PT Inalum for mining BUMNs, PT Pertamina for energy companies, Perum Perumnas for housing construction BUMNs, PT Hutama Karya for infrastructure and toll road BUMNs, PT Danareksa for financial service BUMNs and Perum Bulog for food BUMNs.

All holding companies have to be wholly owned by the government, and they have at least 51 percent of the shares of their subsidiaries, Rini said.

In addition they have shares of A series that the government wild have control of the companies.

Rini said there would be change in the members of the board of Director of PT Danareksa as they have to be able to manage companies operating in financial sectors.

Rini said the BUMN holding companies are expected to carry out development all over the country without financial support from the state budget.

"The President gave emphasis on this. For that purpose we need to have strong infrastructure. The president said the process of forming BUMN holding companies is based on the Chapter 33 of the 1945 Constitution," he said.

The President also attached greater importance to social aspect such how to involve the people in the business operated by BUMNs, Rini said.

She said the plan to form BUMN holding companies is still in the process, adding, "we are harmonizing regulations and continue to communicate with other state agencies."

Meanwhile Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said the president has asked him and the Coordinating Minister for Economy to synchronize regulations.

Pramono said the government, the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) and the House of Representatives would together discuss the BUMN holding plan.(*)
