Rio de Janeiro (ANTARA News) - Indonesia through its shuttlers grabbed the mixed double Olympic gold medal in the badminton branch on the 12th day of the Olympic Games here on Wednesday.

The gold medal was won by Indonesias mixed doubles players Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir, lifting the Indonesian position in the medal tally from rank 56 to 39.

Until Wednesday evening, Indonesia has won one gold and one silver medals in the Olympic Games now on-going in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Indonesias position increased sharply over the other ASEAN countries, namely Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Singapore but it is still below the position of Thailand which has grabbed two gold medals.
