Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - The Indragiri Hulu district police in Riau province has foiled an attempt to smuggle 48 kilograms of dried hashish from Aceh province.

"The hashish was seized from two people of Aceh. We have detained the two suspects for investigation," chief of the district police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Abbas Basuni said Saturday.

The two suspects, identified by their initials as Mw and MR, hailed from North Aceh district, Aceh province, he said.

The police foiled the smuggling attempt on Wednesday (August 17) after receiving information from the Batang Gansal police precinct in Indragiri Hulu, he said.

"The hashish was being carried aboard a bus heading for Batang Gansal," he said quoting information.

A few hours after receiving the information, the police stopped and searched the suspected bus plying between Banda Aceh and Jakarta and found 48 packs of dried hashish weighing a kilogram each, he said.

The hashish was put in a large suitcase, he said.

After stopping the bus, the police interrogated the passengers. Both Mw and MR confessed that the contraband belonged to them, he said.

Based on the results of a preliminary investigation, the hashish was to be brought to Jakarta. The police is still investigating who the sender and recipient are of the drugs, he said.(*)
