Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Hasyim Asyari was appointed as commissioner of the General Election Commission (KPU) based on Presidential Decree No. 87 of 2016 for the 2012-2017 term.

Hasyim was appointed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the State Palace here on Monday.

Hashim has worked as a lecturer in the Constitutional Law Section, Faculty of Law, University of Diponegoro, Semarang, Central Java. He was born in Pati, Central Java, on March 3, 1973.

Before the inauguration, Hashim took the oath of office as commissioner of the KPU for the remaining term of office from 2012 to 2017.

He was thereafter appointed officially by President Jokowi.

Hasyim vowed to follow the internal mechanism of the KPU, which has been running mainly in the formation of the Election Commissions regulations.

"I will personally follow the internal mechanism of the KPU, which is already preparing to coordinate the implementation of the elections in 2017. I will follow it," he noted.

According to Hasyim, the formation of the Election Commissions regulations is a matter of urgency that will be used as a guideline by the General Electoral Commission at the provincial, district, and city levels while conducting elections in their respective regions, including problems related to e-voting.

"I think it is of utmost urgency," he emphasized.

Vice Chairman of the Peoples Consultative Assembly Oesman Sapta, Jimly Asshidiqie, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, and Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council Sri Adiningsih were among several other officials present on the occasion.
