Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - The government of the Indonesian province of Papua is cooperating with Britains University of Stirling to train a number of personnel in sports management.

The head of the education and training service of the Papua province, Zakarias Giay, said here on Wednesday that cooperation was aimed at preparing the provinces human resources ahead of the 20th National Sports Week (PON) in the region in 2020.

"The dean of sports management department and a lecturer of the University of Stirling will prepare civil servants from the Papua provinces training and education service for training in Britain," he noted.

Zakarias explained that 100 candidates were selected, of which 20 cleared the selection process. Eventually, 10 will leave for Britain next month to improve their English language skills before attending the sports management program.

Zakarias pointed out that a team of the University of Stirling would select the civil servants who would participate in the training program and also give inputs to the Papua provincial government with regard to PON XX 2020 management.

"Besides supporting human resources development, the education and training service will also renovate the APDN Yoka building for accommodation during PON XX," he informed.

He also disclosed that he has been named as the chief of the PON XX Committee and would lend support in terms of infrastructure and human resources.(*)
