"I see there is no problem. Just now, it was reported that everything is manageable," Luhut stated.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta Bay reclamation project is not problematic, despite the fact that the work on it was halted in the middle of this year, according to Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

"I see there is no problem. Just now, it was reported that everything is manageable," he stated in his office, here, Wednesday.

The minister was scheduled to receive a report from the team of his Deputy III for Infrastructure Coordination Affairs Ridwan Djamaluddin, on Wednesday afternoon, on the results of evaluation of the reclamation projects.

He, however, planned to conduct additional evaluation within the next few days.

The minister claimed that discussions had been held with the state electricity company PT PLN and several other concerned parties.

Meanwhile, Djamaluddin said he had highlighted several problems and had requested the respective institutions to find solutions last week.

He pointed out that Minister Pandjaitan had given him specific assignments, such as the installation of electrical cables and pipelines on G Island.

Earlier, Pandjaitan had stated that the problem related to the G Island had been solved, including the projects location, which is only 500 meters from the Muara Karang Steam Power Plant.

On June 30, the then coordinating minister for maritime affairs, Rizal Ramli announced the cancellation of the G Island reclamation project in Jakarta Bay, saying that its implementation was a serious offense.

The project would endanger the environment, sea traffic, and vital projects, Ramli informed the press.

"The joint committee of ministers agrees that the G Island reclamation project is a serious offense," Ramli stated.

Ramli noted that the project being developed by PT Muara Wisesa Samudera, a subsidiary of PT Agung Podomoro Land, was categorized as a serious offense, as the state electricity company PT PLNs electrical cables ran under the island projects site.(*)
