"Through this event, we want to share with the people about the achievements and activities of the Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan," GWOs director Karen Hsu said here on Sunday.
She hoped the exhibition would strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Taiwan and also open peoples minds that being a migrant worker could be a way to develop talent and capability and reach goals.
"Most of mass media report cases experienced by the migrant workers. The photo and video exhibition show the positive sides of them in Taiwan," Hsu noted.
One of the Indonesian migrant workers featured at the exhibition was Eulis Komariah. The woman from Bandung, West Java province, who is working as a caregiver in Pingtung County, has several times won Taichi contests in Taiwan.
GWO also showcased stories about the Indonesian migrant workers journeys, experiences, and feelings in short movies, poems, and documentary films.
Every year GWO holds Taiwan Video Migrant Awards won by Indonesian students and migrant workers.
Meanwhile, the Director of Press and Information at the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) in Jakarta,Ismail Mae stated that the Taiwanese government supports the development of Indonesians capacity in the Formosa Island.
"Taiwan is the Indonesian migrant workers second destination after Malaysia. Besides giving high salaries, the Taiwanese government also gives freedom to foreigners to have a group, organization and conduct positive activities," he said.
Friendly Taiwan is a collaborative event between the Indonesian News Agency of ANTARA, the National Authority for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Overseas Workers (BNP2TKI), the News Division of New Taipei city, the Taiwanese Culture Department, and several other institutions and organizations.(*)
