Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - The Wamena Airport in Jayawijaya District, Papua Province, was temporarily closed after a Trigana Air cargo plane, flight number PK-YSY, slammed into the runway and skidded off it.

There were no reports of casualties.

Chief of the Jayawijaya Police Resort Adjunct Senior Commissioner Yan Reba said here Tuesday that the closure was necessary to clear the runway.

"We cleared rubble and spilled oil from the runway, as well as moved the plane," he said.

He hoped the airport would resume normal operations on Wednesday.

The plane was touching down at the Wamena airport at about 7:30 a.m. when the incident occurred.

The plane, carrying 14,913 tons of oil, sparked a fire when the accident happened.

But the fire was successfully put out immediately.

The police will interrogate the ill-fated pilot and co-pilot concerning the accident.
