Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The European Union (EU) has urged all countries to implement the Paris Agreement generated from the United Nations' Summit on Climate Change at the Conference of Parties (COP21) by organizing the Climate Diplomacy Week in Indonesia.

"The European Union is fully committed to implementing the Paris Agreement, and we encourage all G20 countries to do the same," the EU Ambassador to Indonesia, Vincent Gu'rend, said at the opening of the Climate Diplomacy Week here on Tuesday.

He hoped that climate change is seriously managed by the G-20 members, including Indonesia.

"We are committed to sharing experiences and support with Indonesia in implementing various efforts regarding the Paris Agreement," Ambassador Gu'rend said.

He added that the ratification of the Paris Agreement is currently being conducted by the EU, and will be completed soon.

The EU has had a comprehensive policy on climate change.

Illegal deforestation, peatland degradation and forest fires have had negative impact on global climate and threatened the human ecosystem, making climate change an important element in the EUs relations with Indonesia.

Indonesia is one of the largest greenhouse gas issuers in the world and had reiterated its commitment to addressing climate change at the Paris Climate Conference (COP21) with a promise to reduce emissions by 29 percent by 2030 and 41 percent with international aid.

There are five main conclusions of the Paris Agreement. First, mitigation by reducing emissions quickly to reach the threshold of global temperature increase below 2 degrees Celsius, and to reduce temperatures by up to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Second, transparent carbon accounting and emission reduction systems. Third, adaptation by strengthening the ability of countries to cope with climate change impact.

Fourth, strengthening recovery efforts due to climate change, and five, providing funding to build a green and sustainable economy.(*)
