Jakarta (ANTARA News) - House Commission IX deputy chairman Saleh Partaonan Daulay has urged intensive supervision, investigations and field operations against illegal drugs.

In addition, Daulay also suggested the repealing of Health Minister Regulation No. 284/Menkes/SK/III/2007 concerning the Peoples Pharmacy.

"Besides suggesting that the regulation be repealed, the House Commission IX also urged the Food and Drugs Supervisory Board (BPOM) and relevant ministries/institutions to intensify supervision against illegal drugs," Daulay remarked here on Wednesday.

However, the House Commission IX was afraid that counterfeit food and drugs were still circulating in the public, politicians from the National Mandate Party (PAN) said.

There were allegations that plenty of food and drinks were still circulating without a marketing authorization, they added.

"People should not be left in a state of worry and anxiety," said the representative of the electoral district of North Sumatra.

In conducting more intensive surveillance, investigations and field operations against illegal drugs, Daulay felt that the BPOM cannot work alone but must co-operate with the police.

"The BPOM also needs to involve the community as the supervisors," he added.(*)
