Miangas (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said here on Wednesday that he would continue to ensure that the countrys outermost islands and regions witness sustainable development, and thus see the presence of the state in their lives.

The presidents statement came when he inaugurated the Miangas airport in the district of Talaud, North Sulawesi, and two passenger terminals of two airports in Central Sulawesi on the outermost island of Miangas on Wednesday.

President Jokowi explained various kinds of development efforts currently on in all regions of Indonesia and added that these were aimed to underline the states presence in these regions.

"The Unitary State of Indonesia is present in the most tangible forms, such as transportation and good public services for its citizens throughout the country, including in the regions which are the farthest from the capital city," he added.

He assured that the government would continue to construct roads in the border regions as well as along the border check points and will provide public services in the outermost regions.

"We want the people living in the border regions and on outermost islands feel a sense of pride in being the citizens of this country and are full of a spirit to guard the motherland," he stressed.

The Miangas airport has a 1,400mx30m runway and a 356 square meter terminal building, built with a budget of more than Rp320 billion.

"Thanks to this airport, Miangas will be connected with and better accessible from Talaud, Tahuna, Siau islands and Manado," he informed.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by First Lady Irian Joko Widodo, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki and North Sulawesis governor, Olly Dondokambey.
