Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - A team of Indonesian students the Yogyakarta State University (UNY) has won two awards in the World Costume Festival held in Vigan city, the Philippines.

The awards were in Booth Competition and Costume Designing.

"The Indonesian team was the strongest competitor at the event," Team Coordinator Novesar Jamaru said in a statement received by ANTARA here on Monday.

The World Costume Festival is a triennial international event for costume designers, organized by the Organization of International Scenographers, Theater Architects and Technicians (OISTAT).

"The World Costume Festival 2016 featured costume competition, workshops, acoustic competition, flight of sky lanterns, raniag (light) electric floats parade, candle floaters and raniag (light) street dancing," Novesar informed.

The competition, he added, comprised categories, namely Booth Competition and Costume Design Competition.

Teams from Philippines, Japan, India, Egypt, Nigeria, the United States and Indonesia participated in the competition.

Vigan Mayor Eva Marie S. Medina highly appreciated the Indonesian team.

"The Vigan people found the costume design very inspiring, especially the art performance costume," she underscored.

In the past, the UNY carnival team had emerged as the Grand Champion at the World Costume Festival 2013.(*)
