"Any indications of involvement of officials in corruption cases must be investigated," a researcher of ICW Emerson Yuntho said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) has asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to get to the root of the corruption cases implicating officials of the Attorney General office.

Officials of the Attorney General office were believed to be involved in corruption cases such as over the social aid fund embezzlement in North Sumatra, a researcher of ICW Emerson Yuntho said.

"Any indications of involvement of officials in corruption cases must be investigated," Emerson said here on Monday.

According to ICW, there were two corruption cases in which officials of the Attorney General office were allegedly involved.

One of the cases is over social aid fund embezzlement in North Sumatra with former North Sumatra governor Gatot Pujo Nugroho telling the court having given money to prosecutor Maruli Hutagalung.

Gatot , the main suspect in the case is already convicted and is now serving jail term.

Another one is over the graft case of PT Brantas Abipraya implicating head of the Jakarta High Prosecution office Sudung Sitomorang and Assistant of Special Crime Tomo Sitepu.

Emerson said the people need to remind KPK not stop and leave unsolved cases implicating structural officials especially law enforcement officials such as attorney general office.

ICW strongly called for sweeping investigation of the graft cases of PT Brantas Abipraya and social aid fund embezzlement in North Sumatra.

Emerson said Gatots wife Evy Susanti, also already convicted, had told the court having heard her lawyer OC Kaligis as saying about graft money for Maruli Hutagalung.

Evy gave the testimony to the Jakarta Corruption Court in the trial of former secretary general of the Nasdem Party Patrice Rio Capella as a suspect in the same case November 2015.

The social aid embezzlement and graft case have dragged a number of members of the provincial lawmakers and judges of state administrative court as well as OC Kaligis, a renowned lawyer.

At that time Maruli was Investigation Director at the Attorney General office. Now he is head of the East Java high prosecution office.(*)
