However, in order to actualize this vision, cooperation from all country members is required."
Nusa Dua (ANTARA News) - The 85th Interpol General Assembly focuses on identifying shifts in global threat, which has become a serious concern for the international police.

The meeting is expected to generate a global security map in response to the global security threat, Interpols President Mireille Ballestrazzi said, in his speech during the opening of the 85th Interpol General Assembly in Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center, on Monday.

"However, in order to actualize this vision, cooperation from all country members is required," she said.

The world faces not only conventional crimes but also extraordinary ones, including terrorism threats, which involve foreign terrorist fighters who return from conflict zones. This issue was one of the main discussions at the meeting.

The Indonesia National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian said cybercrimes and organized crimes were included in the list of extraordinary offences.

Cross-country felonies include illegal fishing, human trafficking, drug smuggling and money laundering.

"Cooperation from ASEAN countries as well as international cooperation, accompanied by diplomatic efforts, are required to contain radical beliefs," a former police chief, who was also the former head of National Agency for Counter-Terrorism, said.

The 85th Interpol General Assembly, which will be held from 7 to 10 November, will be attended by over 1,000 delegates from 164 countries.

The meeting is closed to the public, except for the opening and closing events, which include the election of the newest Interpol Chief to replace the incumbent Mireille Ballestrazzi.
