Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State-run gas company PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) has expanded its natural gas pipeline to Sukabumi and Bogor in West Java.

"We are expanding natural gas pipeline to Sukabumi, targeted to be finished by the end of the year, so that natural gas could be enjoyed by many industries there," PGNs Bogor Sales Area Head Elda Sutarda said in a statement here on Thursday.

Sukabumi is home to various industries, including energy drinks, tea and milk, Elda said.

"Industries in Sukabumi are keen to shift their energy source from LPG to PGNs natural gas and save up to 30 to 50 percent of the costs," he added.

For Bogor area, PGN has distributed natural gas to 21,948 homes, 282 commercial customers such as hotels and restaurants, and more than 250 industries, he added.

"PGN gas pipeline in Bogor and surrounding areas has surpassed 620 km. We will continue to expand it, and next year we are targeted to reach thousands of new subscribers in Bogor, including households, commercial services and industries," Elda said.

The companys gas pipeline across the country has reached 7,267 km or some 78 percent of downstream natural gas pipeline. It supplies natural gas to 119,960 households, 1,929 small-scale enterprises, as well as malls, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, and 1,630 large-scale industries and power plants.(*)
