Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police and Military security personnel will tighten the security at the Parliament building in the run up to a planned protest rally on November 25, 2016.

"We have received an information saying that there will be another demonstration on November 25, during which there would a hidden effort from some groups to take control the House of Representatives (DPR)," National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian remarked at the Police Headquarters, after a meeting with TNI Commander General Gatot Nurmantyo, on Monday.

Karnavian said if the plan of the demonstrators was to take control of the DPR and overthrow the government, then it would be included as treason and would be firmly dealt with according to the law.

A number of Islamic mass organizations are planning major protests on November 25 and December 2 to call on the police to arrest non active Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) on case of alleged blasphemy.

Karnavian and TNI Commander General Gatot Nurmantyo on Monday communicated with the regional police chiefs and regional military commanders across Indonesia via video conference to ensure security and coordination ahead of the demonstration in Jakarta on November 25 and December 2, 2016.

Earlier on November 4, hundreds of thousands of members of Muslim organizations took to the streets of Jakarta to call for legal action against Ahoks alleged blasphemous statement about the Holy Quran.(*)
