Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and National Democrat Party (NasDem) Chairman Surya Paloh discussed latest issues of nationality at the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday morning.

At the Presidential Palace complex, Jokowi and Paloh had breakfast together while discussing current political issues in the country.

"I have just had breakfast with Pak Surya Paloh, and again I would like to reiterate the need for strengthening the spirit of pluralism, mutual respect and mutual love among the present and future generations of the nation," Jokowi said during a press conference after the breakfast.

The head of state said Surya Paloh and he discussed the strengthening of Pancasila ideology that needs to be done by all components of the nation including community leaders, religious leaders and members of Parliament.

Jokowi explained that the government was also serious in tackling radicalism in Indonesia that could damage the national unity and integrity.

"Together with all powers, the government is determined to prevent the emergence of radicalism in the country," the president noted.

In the meantime, Paloh expressed his appreciation to Jokowi who invited him to have breakfast together at the palace to discuss the political stability in the country.

"The ideology of our nation should continue to be maintained, because we cannot do so if there is a radical understanding that threatens our country," Paloh said.

Besides Paloh, Jokowi had been receiving some party leaders since last week, namely Golkar Party Chairman Setya Novanto, Gerindra Chairman Prabowo Subianto, and PDI Perjuangan Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri.

At each of the meetings, the president and the party chairmen discussed the political situation in the country and called for maintaining unity in the Republic of Indonesia.
