Beijing (ANTARA News) - Indonesias Maritime Security Coordinating Board (Bakamla) and Chinese Coast Guard have agreed to set up cooperation in maritime legal enforcement.

The cooperation was discussed during a meeting between Bakamla Chief Vice Admiral Ari Soedewo and Chief of the China Coast Guard Meng Hongwei, an Indonesian diplomat said here on Friday.

The two officials emphasized the importance of strengthening the bilateral cooperation to face maritime issues involving the two countries, Suargana Pringganu, head of the political function at the Indonesian embassy in Beijing, said.

They also agreed to expand cooperation in high-ranking official meetings, personnel training, exchange of visits of ships and capacity building.

The two chiefs also agreed to increase mutual trust, confidence and coordination, so they could carry out swift and effective responses against trans-regional crimes and maritime disputes, in order to maintain regional security and stability.

Bakambla and the China Coast Guard also agreed to explore cooperation in exchange of information and joint exercises.

China hopes to extend multilateral cooperation with Indonesia under the framework of ASEAN Regional Forum and Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting (HACGAM).

On Friday afternoon, Vice Admiral Ari Seodewo was scheduled to hold a meeting with the Chinese Agriculture Authorities.(*)
