Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police spokesman Insp.Gen.Boy Rafli Amar confirmed on Friday that police have arrested Rachmawati Soekarnoputri, a daughter of the countrys first President Soekarno.

"Now in the process of investigation," Boy said.

The arrest of Rachmawati, a younger sister of Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is the chairperson of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) came amid issue of plot to topple the government.

Boy said police have also arrested seven other people, but he refused to give details including names and reasons for the arrest.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) refused to answer beyond saying "Go ask the police chief," when asked by reporters about the arrest.

Meanwhile hundreds of thousands of Muslims including from various other regions of the country are massing at Jakartas Monas Square performing Fridays prayers.

Originally the masses planned to launch rally demanding the arrest of Jakarta Governor Basuku Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) they accused of blasphemy .

On Thursday, Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavia managed to persuade the hard line Muslim leaders to drop the planned rally, and concentrated only on the Friday prayers.(*)
