Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta police have made preparations to assure security during public debate between gubernatorial election candidates scheduled on Friday.

"We have assured security and coordinated with candidates with regard to their supporters," Jakarta Metropolitan Police chief Inspector General M Iriawan said here on Wednesday.

He said only 100 supporters from each pair of candidates would be allowed to enter the room for the debate to assure order and security.

"So each pair will only have 100 supporters in the room and so there will only be 300 supporters from different pairs of candidates in the room," he said.

Iriawan said the police and parties concerned would conduct simulation on Thursday in connection with the event.

Regarding the number of police personnel to be involved in the security it would all depend upon the situation in the field, he said.

The Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) plans to hold a pubic debate for the candidates who would contest in the election scheduled on February 15 on Friday.

KPU Jakarta would take the theme of social and economic development in the first debate which will be participated in by Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono with Sylviana Murni as his running mate, incumbent governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama and deputy governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat and Anies Baswedan would pair with Sandiaga Uno.

The theme would be divided into three issues namely socio-economic gap, environment, transportation, city planning, infrastructure and floods and education, security, character education, conflict resolution and Jakarta community life.

The first public debate would be broadcast live by three stations - Net, TV One and Jawa Pos TV at 8pm while seven other TV stations would broadcast the event in recorded version.

The second and third debate are scheduled on January 27 and February 10.(*)
