Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri said the government would continue to promote occupational training in an effort to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian workers.

"The governments aim is to improve the access and quality of occupational training so that our workforce has the ability to work," Hanif said in a discussion on sensitive issues, radicalism and economic prospects 2017 in Jakarta on Monday.

He explained that the government decided to strengthen the role of labor training because the system in Indonesia was still oriented to formal education and less training.

He added that formal education, in terms of orientation and curriculum, was not fully demand-driven or raised by economic demand.

Hanif remarked that he was working with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Indonesia to create a workforce training program in a structured and systematic manner.

The training enables participants to follow an internship for a certain position to be professionally certified.

"Its all in order to improve the competitiveness of Indonesian workers," he pointed out.

He emphasized that the creation of human resources with competitiveness according to the area of competition is one effective way to face the competition in the manpower sector.(*)
