Bengkulu (ANTARA News) - The Bengkulu provincial government is designing an integrated and holistic program for inter-regional organizations to alleviate poverty in the region, according to Governor Ridwan Mukti.

"The main focus of the program in Bengkulu is to alleviate poverty that must be addressed in an integrated and holistic manner," the governor remarked here on Monday.

He said that of the five priority programs of the local government, poverty eradication and alleviation of the disadvantaged areas are the key focus.

According to Mukti, lack of infrastructure was the main factor that led to underdevelopment in Bengkulu as compared to the other regions, particularly in Sumatra Island.

"Lack of infrastructure is the cause of underdevelopment in Bengkulu, and an integrated and comprehensive program must be put in place," Governor Mukti emphasized.

Furthermore, the governor stated that the provincial government has five priority programs for the development of Bengkulu Province: poverty eradication, strengthening the agro-maritime leading commodity, industrialization and strategic infrastructure development, IT-based transformation of bureaucracy, and Visit Wonderful Bengkulu 2010.
