Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Embassy is examining the authenticity of the passports belonging to the women allegedly involved in the murder of Kim Jong-nam, North Korean President Kim Jong-uns step sibling in Malaysia.

"Based on information gathered by the Malaysian authorities, the Indonesian Embassy is taking steps to verify the Indonesian passports held by the involved women," Arrmanatha Nasir, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted in a short statement in Jakarta, Thursday.

Nasir further stated that the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has requested the Malaysian authorities to provide information on the arrest of the woman, who is in possession of an Indonesian passport and is believed to have been involved in the murder of a North Korean man.

Moreover, he said the embassy had sought consular access to provide legal assistance to ensure that her rights are being fulfilled, especially if she is proven to be an Indonesian national.

"The embassy continues to coordinate with the Malaysian security forces in this case," he remarked.

The second woman arrested in connection with the murder of Jong-nam is in possession of an Indonesian passport under the name Siti Aishah.

According to Chief of Malaysian Police Inspector General Khalid Abu Bakar, as cited by The Star on Thursday, she was arrested today at around 2 p.m. local time.

"The passport stated that she is from Serang, Banten, in Indonesia. She was identified from the CCTV footage at the airport, and she was alone at the time of the arrest," he noted.

The date of birth mentioned on the passport is February 11, 1992.

It was earlier reported that 45-year-old Jong-nam was killed by two women who splashed a chemical solution on his face in the Kuala Lumpur 2 International Airport at 9 a.m. local time on Monday when he was about to depart for Macau.

Both women then attempted to flee by getting into a taxi.

One of them was arrested at the airport on Wednesday just before she could flee the country by boarding an aircraft.

She was identified as 29-year-old Doan Thi Huong and is in possession of a Vietnamese passport.
