Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government will produce electronic identity cards (e-KTP or e-ID cards) more carefully in the future given the fact that there is alleged corruption in the previous e-KTP project, Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said.

"We will be more careful in the future," the minister said after attending a working meeting with Commission I of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) at the Parliament building here on Tuesday.

He said that although there is an alleged corruption case in the e-KTP project, yet the government continues to push for the completion of the e-KTP recording process.

"We have no problem. We go on, just like driving a car, we continue to push ahead even we are not yet smooth with the gear, the e-KTP recording process continues to be accelerated. We are now finalizing the e-KTP tender project, after I cancelled the previous tender because it was not clean and clear," the minister said.

Kumolo said that the active role of the people is needed to make the e-KTP recording process a success.

In Surabaya, East Java, he said, the officials even visited resident houses to make e-KTP recording but still not all could be covered.

"Therefore, the active role of the people is also needed. It cannot be done by the government alone. The people should also be pro-active, particularly those in apartments and in big cities," he said.(*)
