Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana left for Batam, Riau Islands Province, on Thursday to inspect the construction of a dam project.

The president and his entourage departed aboard presidential aircraft RJ-85 from Halim Perdanakusuma, eastern Jakarta, at 9:25 a.m. local time, Bey Machmudin, head of the Press, Media and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, noted in a statement.

Upon arrival in Batam, Jokowi headed to the Galang Sub-district, where the Sei Gong dam is being constructed.

In Galang, Jokowi is also expected to distribute several social facilities, such as smart cards for students, health cards, and food supplements to the local inhabitants.

In the afternoon, the president and his entourage are scheduled to leave Batam, for Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra Province.

Members of the presidential entourage include Health Minister Nila Moeloek, Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy, and Head of the Presidential Staff Teten Masduki.
