"Our promise is clear. We will stop the reclamation, which is one of our promises," Uno said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakartas governor-elect will fulfill the promise to stop the reclamation project in Jakarta Bay, North Jakarta, according to Sandiaga Uno, the deputy governor-elect.

"Our promise is clear. We will stop the reclamation, which is one of our promises," Uno stated here, Thursday.

A team will be set up to suggest policies that will help deliver on the promise and benefit fishermen, he noted.

After the inauguration in October, the new governor and deputy governor will introduce programs to be implemented as a realization of their promises, he added.

According to the results of the regional head election (pilkada) in Jakarta on April 19, 2017, Anies Baswedan and Uno won as Jakartas next governor and deputy governor, defeating incumbent Basuki Tjahaja Purnama and his partner, Djarot Saiful Hidayat by winning 57.77 percent of the votes as against 42.23 percent.

Following the victory of Baswedan and Uno, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar has planned to hold a discussion with them on the continuation of the reclamation project.

"We have had a new process, and we will inform them. Of course, it should be explained carefully. Anies (Baswedan) might have not got ample data (on the reclamation project)," Pandjaitan remarked at the presidential palace, on Apr 20.

Baswedan, however, said he has not yet officially taken over as Jakarta governor.

"Hence, wait until October," he added.(*)
