Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) along with First Lady Iriana arrived in Palu, Central Java, as part of a working visit after concluding the trip to Beijing to attend the Silk Road Summit.

The Indonesia-I presidential aircraft landed at the Mutiara SIS Al-Jufri Airport in Palu on Monday at 11 p.m. local time after flying for six hours and 20 minutes from Beijing, China, Head of the Press, Media, and Information Bureau of the State Secretariat Bey Machmudin noted in a statement, here, Tuesday.

President Jokowi is scheduled to officially open a national congress of the Indonesian Muslim Student Movement at the Darussalam Grand Mosque on Tuesday morning.

The head of state and his entourage are expected to return to Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon.

Jokowi departed from Beijing on Monday afternoon for Palu after completing his three-day work visit to China on May 13-15, 2017.

In Beijing, the president had attended the "Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation," or known as the Silk Road Summit, held at the Yangqi Lake International Conference Center.

Jokowi and the heads of state and government from 29 countries also discussed ways to synergize policies and strengthen connectivity.

In his remarks, Jokowi stressed the importance of the roles of Indonesia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in the Belt and Road Initiative launched by China.

Investment potentials in several Asian, African, and European countries through the New Silk Road and the Maritime Belt in the Indian Ocean and South China Sea, among others, were discussed during the forum.

Jokowi also highlighted the countrys abundant natural resources and scenic tourist destinations from Aceh in the west to Papua in the east.

"The distance between the westernmost part of the archipelago and the easternmost is equal to the distance between London and Dubai or Los Angeles and New York. The vast Indonesian archipelago and waters are full of natural resources and tourist spots," he said as quoted by Bey Machmudin.(*)
