Batang, C Java (ANTARA News) - Police in the Central Java district of Batam have arrested six out of eight people suspected of abducting a local resident and seized a car, mobile phone and Rp73 million in cash.

The police are still investigating the six suspects and are hunting down two others, Chief of the Batang District Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Juli Agung Pramono said here on Wednesday.

"We arrested the six suspects in different places and at different time. The mastermind of the abduction is a village administration officer identified as Teguh," he said.

The five other suspects who have been arrested are identified by their initials as MK, J, KS, NH, and NK, while two other suspects identified by their initials as A and H have been put on the wanted list, he said.

The local resident identified as Yul was abducted at the house belonging to Mut.

The suspects abducted Yul after one of them pointed a toy gun at him. They later took him away in a car, he said.

He said the suspects claimed to be members of the detective investigation unit of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police while abducting Yul.

The abduction case came to the light after the suspected abductors asked for Rp500 million in ransom from the family of the victim, he said.(*)
