Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Army Headquarters is conducting an investigation into the cause of an accident that occurred during the Military Rapid Reaction Force training in Natuna, Riau Islands, Wednesday, which killed four soldiers and left eight others wounded.

"A team from the army is conducting an investigation to find out the cause of the accident. The 23mm/Giant Bow cannon that was used during the training is still in a good condition and was under proper maintenance in the Yonarhanud-1/K unit," said Head of the Information offices of the Army Force (TNI-AD) General Brigade Alfret Denny Teujeh in Jakarta, Thursday.

The results of the investigation, he continued, will be reported to the Chief of the National Military Forces.

General Brigade Teujeh also expressed his gratitude toward the media for the attention and sympathy following the training accident.

He said he respected journalistic freedom and would openly provide information to the media.

"However, we also hope for all parties to be able to empathize toward the grieving families of the fallen soldiers by not showing any pictures or spreading inaccurate stories regarding the incident," he added.

The remains of the four deceased army soldiers have been transported to their hometowns, Wednesday evening.(*)
