Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Presidential Palace, through Chief of Staff of the Indonesian President Teten Masduki, expressed condolences to the victims of the suicide bombing in Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta, on Wednesday night.

"I was urged to extend the president's condolences to the victims and their families and ensure that all victims receive treatment," Masduki stated while visiting several blast victims at the Premier Jatinegara Hospital, Kampung Melayu, on Thursday.

Masduki has received a special assignment from President Joko Widodo to ensure that the victims receive proper care.

Masduki confirmed that five victims were treated at the Premier Jatinegara Hospital, and a police officer had been transferred to the Police Hospital.

"There were five casualties, with details of four people being treated and one being operated on. I met Feri, a police officer; Agung, a citizen; and Jihan Azzahra, a college student," he remarked.

Masduki revealed that all victims were undergoing treatment and conveyed President Widodos condolences to them.

He deplored the bomb attack in which the four policemen, who were deployed to escort a torch parade before the Islamic fasting month of Ramadhan, became victims.

"Of course, we must condemn the act of terror. This is a real terror incident. Hence, the government, along with the members of society, must fight against it," he emphasized.

Masduki also noted that the president, who is on a work visit to the provinces of East and Central Java, had called on the people to not panic following the incident, since terror is intended to instill a sense of fear among the public. Hence, people in the country should not worry or be fearful.
