Tokyo (ANTARA News) - During a meeting with Japans Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, concurrently chairman of the Asian Games 2018 organizing committee, promoted the regional multi-sport event scheduled in Jakarta and Palembang City, South Sumatra.

Husain Abdullah, spokesman of the vice president, stated here on Tuesday that Kalla has offered cooperation to organize the Asian Games during the two leaders meeting at the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo, on late Monday.

"The vice president hoped that Indonesia and Japan would cooperate in the Asian Games, as Tokyo will also host the 2020 Olympics," Husain noted.

He said Indonesia established such partnership when it had hosted the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta.

However, Husain did not elaborate on the result of the meeting as it was still an informal discussion.

The Indonesian government and the Indonesia Asian Games 2018 Organizing Committee have begun offering sponsorship for the Asian Games scheduled to be held on Aug 18-Sept 2.

The vice president has also held a series of meetings to discuss sponsorship with State Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno and leaders of some state-run firms, including Mandiri Bank, BNI, BRI, Pertamina, and PT Telkom.

The government has targeted acquiring funds totaling some Rp1.5 trillion-Rp2 trillion from sponsorship for the Asian Games 2018.(*)
