Lubuk Pakam, N.Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The Japanese Consul General in Medan, Takeshi Ishii, has inaugurated the Grant Aid Project for Drug Addiction Treatment and Recovery Center in Lubuk Pakam, Deliserdang District, North Sumatra Province, on Thursday.

Ishii hoped that the rehabilitation center will help restore drug addicts and become an education center on the dangers of drug abuse.

"In addition, we also hope that the relationship and cooperation between Japan and Indonesia can be better and stronger," he stated.

Ishii explained that the project was implemented after the signing of a cooperation contract between Caritas Foundation and the Consulate General of Japan in Medan on Nov 10, 2016.

The foundation received grant aid amounting to Rp1,041 billion (US$77,700) for the construction of a rehabilitation center that accommodates 60 people in a period of inpatient (three months).

The grant comes from Japanese public taxes and is provided directly to various institutions and organizations to meet the needs of the community.

"Through the scheme, the Japanese government, via the Japanese Consulate General in Medan, has provided grant aid for 67 projects since 2000, with a value of more than Rp60 billion ($4,478,616)," he revealed.(*)
