Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Consumers confidence in the domestic economy fell in June compared to May due to limited job opportunities, according to the results of a survey conducted by Bank Indonesia (BI).

However, consumers perception index which currently stands at 122.4 points is still within optimistic target range, executive director of BIs communication department, Tirta Segara said here on Tuesday night.

He said consumers confidence index shrank 3.5 points to 122.4 points as public perception of available job opportunities fell 8.3 points to 96.6 points.

"Consumers perception of limited job opportunities now and in six months time has weakened consumers confidence," he said.

The survey was conducted by BI on 4,600 households in 18 major Indonesian cities every month.

With the consumer confidence index standing at 122.4 points in June the average consumer confidence index in the second quarter of 2017 stood at 124 points, up 6 points from 118 points a quarter earlier.

The decline in consumer confidence index was recorded in seven cities. with Makassar and Banten seeing their consumer confidence index plummeting 18.8 points and 14.3 points respectively.

Under the current economic atmosphere, BI recorded the vast majority of consumers only cast doubt the availability of job opportunities.

Meanwhile, income index increased 3 points to 127 points as employees received Idul Fitri allowances and business income rose. (*)
