Pontianak, W Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - West Kalimantan province will, for the first time, export as much as 50 thousand tons of organic rice through the provinces border to Malaysia, Head of West Kalimantan Provincial Food and Livestock Service Office Abdul Manaf said.

"First export of organic rice is planned to be conducted when commemorating the World Food Day on Oct 19," he said here on Monday.

He explained that the organic rice was produced in the border area of West Kalimantan, Tunggal Bakti village, Kembayan sub-district, Sanggau district.

He claimed that the potential of agriculture in West Kalimantan was very good, as the province will start to export organic rice to Malaysia. Besides rice, his party would also develop corn export.

"In addition to rice, we expect that corn can also be exported to neighboring countries, such as Malaysia," he stated.

According to Manaf, the initial export of organic rice is planned to be attended by President Joko Widodo.

"We have been preparing the plan for the initial export of organic rice since Jan. Hence, it is expected to run smoothly and successfully," he remarked.(*)
