Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The executive board of the Islamic organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) will soon set up a Committee for Palestinian Humanitarian and Independence (K3P) to handle humanitarian crisis in Palestine.

"The K3P will be tasked not only with ensuring the safety and rights of the Palestinian people but also with encouraging global solidarity for Palestinian independence," secretary general of NU executive board Helmy Faishal Zaini said in a written statement released on Wednesday.

The decision to set up the committee is a follow-up to the mandate of the 33rd NU Congress held in Jombang, East Java, in 2015, he stated.

Helmy strongly rejected any notion that what is happening in Palestine is a mere religious conflict.

Hence, he noted that the NU executive board hoped that the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), including China, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Russia, would soon protect the Palestinian people.

Protective measures are needed to ward off the rumor of UNs partiality, which tends to ignore Palestinian interests, he remarked.

"In our view, what is happening in Palestine now is a humanitarian crisis. So, the committee will deal not only with ukhuwah Islamiyah (brotherhood among Muslims) but also with ukhuwah insaniyah (brotherhood among mankind)," he revealed.(*)
