Manado, North Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Law, and Security Affairs Wiranto opened a conference against terrorism in Southeast Asia in Manado, North Sulawesi, on Saturday.

"The implementation of the Sub-Regional Meeting on Foreign Terrorist Fighters and Cross Border Terrorism (SRM FTF-CBT) is very important," Wiranto remarked.

According to the minister, the conference was a follow-up of a joint statement made during the International Meeting on Counter Terrorism in Bali on August 9, 2016.

Wiranto said the conference in Manado aims to strengthen a more focused cooperation with the sub-region in response to the latest developments in security in the seas of Sulu and Sulawesi.

The conference is attended by countries around the Sulu Sea: New Zealand, Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

Wiranto said the conference focused on ways to study the anatomy, conditions, and the situations that occurred in the Southern Philippines and how to manage it together.(*)
