Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) members to offer international protection to the Al-Aqsa complex, Jerusalem, to counter Israels violence and restriction against worshipping at the holy site.

Quoted from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs official website here on Wednesday, the message was conveyed by Minister Marsudi during an Open-Ended Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Executive Committee at the level of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul, Turkey, on Tuesday.

"The OIC should collectively seek international protection for the Al-Aqsa complex to achieve sustainable security, peace, and stability in the complex and Palestine," Minister Marsudi remarked.

Minister Marsudi affirmed that the incident in Al-Aqsa Mosque is a reflection of the harsh policies that violate human rights and the impact of Israels ongoing illegal occupation of Palestine.

"Are we going to allow the Al-Aqsa incident to go on? We cannot allow this to continue happening," she stressed while addressing the foreign ministers of OIC member countries.

Marsudi emphasized the need for OIC member countries to utilize various forums, including the UN Security Council, to apply pressure on Israel to change the violent policies applied in Palestine and to comply with all UN resolutions related to Palestine.

She also suggested that the OIC can immediately urge the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva to hold a special meeting to discuss the situation of human rights violations in Al-Aqsa.

"The incident that occurred in Al-Aqsa is not the first one, but it is a form of violence and illegal occupation and also acts that violate human rights for which Israel must be held accountable," she noted.

Furthermore, Israel must restore stability and ensure that the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex is maintained.

The meeting in Istanbul also served as a platform to reaffirm the importance of re-launching peace talks that are based on the principle of a two-state solution.

The outcome of the meeting is a Final Communique that contains several of Indonesias recommendations.

Prior to the Open-Ended Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Executive Committee, Minister Marsudi had called all OIC representatives in Jakarta. In addition, the OIC has conducted the Meeting of Permanent Representatives Committee of OIC Members in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on July 24, 2017, to discuss the developing situation in Al-Aqsa.(*)
