Tembilahan (ANTARA News) - Two Sumatran Tiger (Phantera tigris sumatrae) killers M. Ajad Abdullah (73) and Mistar Ajad (44), may be facing a year`s jail sentence and a fine of Rp 2 million each, or a month confinement.
There was a tension in the trial between the Tembilahan prosecutor Boy Martin and the accused`s lawyer Edward SH after the demand was read out.
The two had been detained following the trial session. The two men must finish the rest of their detention period, because they had already been confined for 130 days.
The lawyer had protested the prosecutor`s demand. Edward questioned the basis of his clients`s confinement.
Moreover, their detention period had already been completed, and no extension had been applied for by the prosecutor. Therefore the two had to be freed soon, Edward said.
When the court read out the demand on the two defendants, nothing was mentioned about an instruction that they had to be confined immediately. The demand was also one year lower than the prosecutor`s two years demand, a fine of Rp 3 million, or a confinement of one month.
The two men had been accused of killing three Sumatran tigers in Tanjung Simpang village, Pelangiran sub-district, Indragiri Hilir regency, Riau, in February 2009.
Meanwhile the lawyer Edward had filed for an appeal to a higher count, on which the prosecutor was still thinking of some considerations. (*)Editor: Heru
