Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Democratic Party- Struggle (PDIP) is not asking for ministerial posts in President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s new cabinet but would appreciate it if any of its cadres was named for a ministerial post, a PDIP executive said.
PDIP Secretary General Pramono Anung said here on Monday that it was the president`s prerogative to appoint his ministers and PDIP had not proposed any of its cadres for membership in the new cabinet.
He said that PDIP had never asked for a ministerial post. "There is a misleading opinion that has to be straightened out. We have never proposed a name because we have never asked for a post," he said.
Anung said that his party would decide until Tuesday at the latest its stance whether or not PDIP would join Yudhoyono`s government.
PDIP understood that in the presidential system of government, opposition or coalition was basically not known."In a discussion with Megawati Soekarnoputri, we agreed that we no longer want to be trapped in the opposition-coalition dichotomy because we know that in the presidential system, opposition and coalition are not known. What exists is the implementation of balances. Because we are in the parliament, we will carry out the the principle of checks and balances," he said. (*)Editor: Aditia Maruli
