PT Telkom to offer early retirement to 1,200 workers

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - PT Telkom Tbk will offer early retirement to around 1,200 of its workers in an effort to increase efficiency and effectiveness, the company`s vice president for public and marketing communications, Eddy Kurnia, said in a press statement.
"The program will be offered in October 2010 and continued until 2011," he said in the statement received by ANTARA News on Tuesday.
He said the program was part of the company`s business transformation from "initially a sole telecommunications company to become a telecommunications, information, media and education entertainment."
With regard to competition in the industry, Telkom must anticipate the business atmosphere which changes quickly and make efficient resources very strategic consideration.
Since 1995 Telkom has in stages offered early retirement to its employees that met the requirement with reasonable compensations.
The program is mostly directed to employees aged 48 years old and above.
The program includes "Golden Shakehands" upon which employees who take it will fully retire from the company and "Silver Shakehands" on which employees who take it would retire from Telkon and continue to work in other companies under Telkom.
Telkom at present has 23,286 employees and 460 of them are employed in its subsidiaries or other companies.
The company first offered the program in 1995 covering 5,188 employees. From 2002 to 2009 around 12,000 of its employees have already participated in the program.(*)Editor: Heru
