Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta police have arrested a US citizen for allegedly being a narcotic drug courier.

Frank Amado (35), the US citizen, was caught along with a friend, Peyman alias Azizallah alias Sorena (35), who claimed to be an Iranian citizen, Inspector General Dikdik Mulyana Arif, deputy chief of the National Police`s criminal investigation department, said here on Wednesday.

"From the two suspects we confiscated 5.668 kilograms of methamenthamine," he said.
He said Frank was arrested on Monday (Oct 19) at an apartment in Kuningan, South Jakarta.

Frank was believed to have smuggled in meth six times this year from Thailand, he said.
While in Jakarta, Frank kept moving from one place to another and professed to be a web designer and computer teacher.

Frank had become a courier along with Peymen who was caught on the same day as Frank.

Dikdik said Frank always delivered the illegal drug to hotel rooms following orders in Central, South and West Jakarta.

"He put the delivery below TV sets in hotel rooms to avoid suspicion," he said.
Frank always wore shorts and T-shirts when entering hotels to give the impression that he was just a foreign tourist on a vacation and staying at the hotels.

Dikdik said the American always applied non-connecting channels in making transactions and received payments through banks.

He said Peyman who is a trafficker is an ex-convict of the same case. In 2002 he was jailed for two years.

In 2004, Peyman regained his freedom and returned to his home country but later came to Indonesia again. While in Indonesia he again became a meth dealer before he was arrested at an apartment in Kuningan.

"The Iranian citizen has confessed being the owner of the meth distrubuted by Frank," Dikdik said.

He said Peyman received meth supply from Mr A who is also an Iranian and still at large.
The police believed the meth being distributed was made abroad in view of the composition of its materials.

The case has raised the number of drug cases involving foreigners in the country.
The customs and excise authorities arrested 10 Iranian citizens carrying meth at the Soekarno-Hatta international airport in Jakarta recently.

Of the number, eight were women. They came to Indonesia through Syria, Qatar, Malaysia and Dubai flying four different airlines.(*)
