Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Deputy House Speaker Priyo Budi Santoso said here on Tuesday the Golkar Party had proposed cadres to be chosen as deputy ministers in President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s cabinet.

Priyo declined to give names but when asked if one of them was Sharif Cicip Sutardjo he confirmed it.

"Yes, it is like that," he said on the sidelines of a book launching.

Sharif Cicip Sutardjo is a Golkar Party central executive and also a businessman. He is one of the success team members of the new party chairman, Aburizal Bakrie.

Priyo said although he was a party cadre he was also a professional.
"Golkar Party could understand the President`s decision to appoint deputy ministers for certain ministries considered having a heavy task so that the burden could be shared," he said.

He said the presence of deputy ministers would not be a problem because it was regulated in Law Number 39 of 2008 on state administration.

"Golkar Party appreciates the plan and will not make a problem out of it. In the era of then President Soeharto there were also junior ministers," Priyo, who was chairman of the Golkar Party faction in the House from 2004 to 2009.

He said although according to the explanation of the law on state administration the post of deputy minister was for professionals it was like that of the minister`s namely a political post so that it could be filled by professionals from political parties.

When asked on which ministries considered needing deputy ministers he referred to ministries of foreign affairs, finance and communications.

He said the ministries played a very important role with regard to supporting the administration of President Yudhoyono and therefore they needed deputy ministers.

When announcing the second Indonesia united cabinet on October 20, President Yudhoyono said he would appoint several deputy ministers for certain ministries considered having a heavy task.(*)
