Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The president must ask the police chief and attorney general to immediately account for the police having allegedly fabricated the criminal charges against three Corruption Eradication (KPK) leaders, a former Attorney General`s Office (AGO) functionary said.
"The president must take quick action with regard to the fact that the public`s suspicions of police having allegedly fabricated the charges against former KPK chief Antasari Azhar and suspended KPK deputy chiefs Bibit S Rianto and Chandra Hamzah are now being proven," Suhandoyo, a former chief of the AGO`s public information division, said here on Wednesday.
There have been allegations that police had fabricated the bribery charges against Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chiefs Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra Chamzah or frame them in a bribery case to undermine the anti-graft body, he noted.
Besides, police were also suspected of having orchestrated the murder
of Nasrudin Zulkarnaen, president director of PT Rajawali Banjaran, to frame Antasari Azhar.
Suhandoyo said the president must have the courage to ask the police chief and the attorney general to be responsible for their performance so far as it was becoming more and more evident the Bibit-Chandra and Antasari Azhar cases were the result of the allegedly orchestrated efforts to criminilize them.
He said the increasing demands and activity of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other societal organizations were feared to trigger a revolutionary movement against Indonesia`s legal order and system which would only tarnish the image of the present governmen.(*)Editor: Ruslan Burhani
