Padang Pariaman suffers Rp8.67 trillion loss from earthquake

Pariaman (ANTARA News) - Padang Pariaman district suffers Rp8.67 trillion in material loss due to last Sept 30`s earthquake which struck West Sumatra province and its surroundings, according to data collected up till November 12, 2009.
Reports about the material loss had been sent to Vice President`s Secretariat in Jakarta, Padang Pariaman district`s regent, Muslim Kasim, said here on Friday.
Muslim stated that damage of houses had contributed the biggest material loss to district estimated at Rp 7.8 trillion.
The temblor measuring 7,9 on the Richter scale, he said, had caused serious damage to 59,693 houses in the area where most of them had collapsed, 16,525 suffered medium damage, and 15,148 minor damage.
The second highest material loss in Padang Pariaman were from public places such as religious buildings, schools and public health centers estimated at Rp 598.61 billion.
Transportation infrastructure such as roads, bridges and irrigation were also devastated by the earthquake causing a loss of Rp 160.43 billion.
Traditional markets also suffered damages estimated at Rp 74.94 billion, while damage on public infrastructure of cultural, tourism and sports facilities was estimated at Rp 35.28 billion.
Meanwhile, the number of casualties in Padang Pariaman district has reached 456,while 192 residents were missing in landslides. Up till now, 192 people were still missing. (*)Editor: Bambang
