Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Fact-finding Team of Eight, formed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has asked that the case of suspended Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief Susno Duaji be continued towards a solution.

According to the team, Susno`s legal case in the disbursement of Budi Sampoerna`s funds at Bank Century which was being investigated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should be continued.

The request to go ahead with Susno`s case was mentioned in one of the items in the Team of Eight`s recommendations on the case of suspended KPK deputy chiefs Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra Hamzah which was submitted to the president on Tuesday afternoon.

The team asked that the alleged involvement of Susno and Budi Sampoerna`s lawyer Lukas in the disbursement of US$18 million at Bank Century be investigated completely.

In its meeting with the KPK, the Team of Eight got detailed explanations from the recorded conversation between Susno and Lukas which was tapped by the KPK.

In the recorded telephone conversation, Susno was alleged to have asked for a commission for his help in the disbursement of Budi Sampoerna`s money.

But Susno admitted to the Team of Eight that the conversation was a counter-intelligence act after he knew that his telephone was being bugged.

In its conclusion, the team admitted that Chandra and Bibit`s legal case was closely related to the disbursement of Budi Sampoerna`s funds at Century Bank with the involvement of Susno and Lukas.

National Police (Polri) named Bibit and Chadra as suspects in the accusation of extortion, bribery, and misuse of power after KPK announced its investigation into the involvement of Susno in the disbursement of Sampoerna`s funds at Bank Century.

But according to the Team of Eight, the police did not have evidence to back up their the bribery and extortion charges against Bibit and Chandra.(*)
