Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) here on Thursday morning got off to a strong start as investors hunted small-cap shares.
The BEI index went up 4.740 points to 2,488.969 points, and the LQ-45 index surged 1.263 points or 0.28 percent to 492.646 points.
Investors purchased small-cap shares which still could give gains, according to Edwin Sinaga, a domestic stock market observer.
The domestic market was still boosted by positive sentiment despite the fact that the Wall Street bourse was tending to weaken, Edwin Sinaga, president director of PT Finan Corpindo Nusa, said.
Wall Street lost following disappointing data on the US property sector, he said.
Foreign investors would place their funds in Indonesia because they believed that the Indonesian market was promising, he said.
"We are optimistic that foreign investors still had confidence in Indonesia as a profitable market," he said.
The rupiah continued to weaken against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here on Thursday on profit taking moves.
The Indonesian currency traded Rp9,453-Rp9,463 per US dollar, down 73 points from Rp9,380-Rp9,395 per US dollar at the market`s close a day earlier.(*)Editor: Heru
