Rome (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono said he would not comment too much on the Bank Century bailout issue, and preferred to wait for the outome of the audit conducted by the State Audit Board (BPK).
"I will not answer (questions on the issue). Let the BPK and other bodies conduct their audits," he said here on Thursday in reply to reporters` questions.
"I prefer to refer the matter to the agencies concerned," he said.
Boediono also declined to answer when asked where the bailout funds provided to Bank Century had gone. "Let the BPK find out," he said.
When the bailout funds were disbursed to Bank Century, Boediono was the governor of Bank Indonesia, the central bank.
Regarding the short-term financing facility granted to Bank Century and its capital adequacy ratio at the time, Boediono said the short-term financing facility was given based on a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) issued in October 2008 to respond to an emergency situation at the time.
The instrument, he said, was also issued in various other countries during the crisis last year to help banks facing difficulties.
Regarding the policy on capital adequacy ratio (CAR), he said it was taken based upon the developments at the time, namely reduction in the quality of bank assets that affected their CAR. The amount of third-party funds at the bank had also dropped, he added.
He said the situation affected all banks and Bank Century was among those that had been seriously affected.
He said the policy that was adopted then was to respond to the situation that worsened very quickly. "It was applied to all banks and the policy has remained in effect until now," he said.
Many legislators have recently proposed exercising the House of Representatives` (DPR) right of inquiry to seek the truth in the Bank Century case. (*)
