Malang (ANTARA News) - Constitutional Court (MK) Chairman Mahfud MD said President Yudhoyono should consider the legal abolishment of the case involving the police, the antigraft body (KPK) and the attorney general`s office.
Mahfud said here on Saturday "We have never suggested that the President abolish the case but academically I think it is worth considering by the President."
He said although the Team of 8 had already submitted its recommendations on the controversial case of KPK commissioners Bibit Samat Rianto and Chandra M Hamzah, ablishing the case legally was worth considering.
He said it was not too late for the president to issue an abolition decision because he still had time until Monday.
Mahfud however also said that President Yudhoyono could still take other steps which he considered the best to overcome and settle the problem and any decision that the President would take must be respected.
"I myself have to stop talking (after the decision is made) because we have elected the president democratically and so we have to respect any decision or policy produced by the President," he said.
He admitted President Yudhoyono had a lot of sources to refer to for making a decision to settle the problem such as the Team of 8 recommendations, the House of Representatives,
the attorney general and the constituional court. The president could digest all information from them to produce the best alternative, he said.
Mahfud hoped the people would be patient and wait for the final settlement of the polemics and all parties could work normally again after a decision was made.
"The idea of abolition is purely my personal view as an academician. I have also presented the suggestion openly at a general lecture," he said at the University of Brawijaya, Malang, in East Java. (*)Editor: Aditia Maruli
