Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The police will refer the case of Anggodo Widjojo to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) because the latter is considered to have the needed evidence to net him as a criminal suspect, a spokesman said.
"In a comprehensive review of Anggodo`s case that we conducted, we could not find enough initial evidence to justify follow-up action," Insp Gen Dikdik Mulyana, deputy head of the National Police`s Criminal Investigation Department, said here on Tuesday.
Because the evidence the police had against Anggodo was minimal they would cooperate with KPK, he said. "We will fully refer the case to KPK," he said.
He said if KPK later discovered that a general crime had been committed by Anggodo the police would handle it. "But the case is related to corruption, so we will refer it to KPK," he said.
Anggodo is believed to be a middleman dealing case settlement holding wiretapped conversations with several law enforcement officials, heard at the Constitutional Court recently causing an uproar in the public.
He played a central role in fabricating plans to criminalize KPK officials Bibit Samat Rianto and Chandra M Hamzah.
Regarding Ong Yuliana who was also involved in the conversations Dikdik said all persons mentioned in the tape would be interrogated.
In dealing with the case the police had so far grilled eight witnesses but no evidence had been found that could net Anggodo as a suspect, despite the fact that the South Jakarta court had allowed the police to confiscate the tape.
Among the law enforcement officials involved in the conversations were former deputy attorney general for intelligence Wisnu Subroto and vice attorney general Ritonga.
The Anggodo case is already three weeks old but the police have not been able to name him a suspect although they had prepared six charges including, bribery, power abuse, slander, smearing and insulting state institutions.(*)Editor: Heru
